I
am so happy that Autumns here!
Yes, seriously! Take a look at the
fab coats and jackets out there
at the moment and you can't fail
to be happy.
Gone are the days when we just invest
in one good winter coat - outerwear
has become so affordable in recent
years that we can really spice things
up in the nippy days ahead.
Years ago we might just plump for
the usual black or dark winter coat
for practicality but there are so
many great man-made fibres out there
now that most outerwear is washable,
saving costs on dry cleaning and
allowing us to go for super colours
and even winter whites in our choice
of coat.

You
can't fail to notice the gorgeous
vibrant greens and reds that
are in every range this winter.
John Lewis have a fab lime/olive
corduroy coat this season
and Next's lime duffle coat
is fronting their advertisements
this year. Both will see you
through the Autumn in style
- team with the delicious
purple velvet scarves that
are around and you have a
top-end runway look.
If you need a more chunky
style without adding bulk,
take a look at the superb
metallic satin-look padded
jackets that are absolutely
everywhere. Metallic is a
huge story this season especially
pewter's and bronzes - I love
the range at Roman's this
season, really |
|
comfortable yet with a touch of
glamour - perfect for the school
run 'I-haven't-really-tried' look.
In fact, I saw a mum this week wearing
a fabby bronze satin mac with black
turn back cuffs over plain black
trousers and a tiny pair of chocolate
pearl stud earrings and slick of
lip gloss - she looked a million
dollars!

Talking
of pearls, don't think you're
too young to wear them - they
are absolutely THE look of
now in all colours and all
styles. If you feel the usual
single white strand is a little
too 'grown up' or formal for
you, then go for the keishi
style, more organic free-form
strands. They have a really
youthful quality and are less
'structured' yet still have
the gorgeous sheen that is
so flattering to all skin
tones. Notice how pearls instantly
soften the look of the face
and magically make every ones
skin look fabulous - that's
why they were used so often
in old Hollywood movies. Try
it! |
If
you're not a pearl-girl then
you must have beads! Put away
all those fiddly, delicate
necklaces and join the rest
of the world in the new 80's
revival. Of course not everything
from the 80's should make
a comeback, but big beads
get my approval.
Walking around the shopping
centre this week I saw a youngish
girl with a totally black
outfit, layered top and ra-ra
skirt and boots, but she had
bright red tights and a huge
long strand of red beads and
she looked brill! So think
out of the box this season,
Autumn doesn't just have to
mean blacks and browns, inject
a real pop of colour and see
how it can lift your mood.
