With
spring finally deciding to arrive
(just about) I have decided to put away
the thermal vests and Emu boots in favour
of some lighter, brighter fashion. I feel
like I've been dressed in black for an
eternity - I was beginning to feel like
Queen Victoria. Okay, so it's not yet
time for strappy sandals and floral chiffon
but I'm certainly ready to embrace some
warmer weather.
I've been dying to wear a gorgeous new
white smock type shirt. I bought a while
ago which was just too lightweight for
the cold months we've just had. And I've
stocked up on my all time favourite colour
for clothes, lime green.
I'm
absolutely delighted that its so fashionable
at the moment and I've grabbed it in every
thing I can find, even my new gorgeous
handbag from Clarke's (the shoe people)
is in the most vibrant lime colour. I've
found a make-up bag, a cotton scarf, several
tunic shirts and even a very daring nail
varnish. I've treated myself to some peridot
earrings and a ring to match - I'm positively
going to look like a lime by the time
I'm done. And don't get me started on
orange! Orange was everywhere on the catwalks
this spring so I'll be on a mission as
soon as it hits the High Street as its
another favourite.
I'm actually a very 'neutrals' girls but
both of these colours really suit me and
somehow give me a real boost when the
sun starts to shine. If you're feeling
a little jaded after the long winter,
try a little colour therapy - go for something
you wouldn't really normally choose, try
it on and just see if it gives you a lift.
And celebrate spring with a new perfume
perhaps. I like the deep, warm notes in
a winter perfume but I'm always ready
to lighten things up with the less heady
florals in the warmer months.
Our
sense of smell is a really indicator of
mood and our perfume can really say a
lot about us, as well as lifting the spirits
when we feel a little less than full of
life. It you're a scented candle fan as
I am, it's time to put away your cinnamons
and berry fragrances and replace them
with lilacs, gardenias and maybe jasmine,
bringing a breath of spring into your
home environment too.
Walks in the fresh air have been a little
thin on the ground during the horrible
weather but get out and about now if you
can to blow the winter cobwebs away. Or
if you're after a little more exercise
but can't face the gym, spring cleaning
believe it or not can be wonderfully therapeutic.
Doctors say it goes back to our basic
'nesting' instincts and can boost energy
levels remarkably.
Stick
your old jogging bottoms and T-shirt on,
turn on some invigorating tunes and off
you go. Think of all the calories you'll
burn off and all those energising endorphins
you'll release! I'm a bit of a clean freak
any way so I actually love spring cleaning
and as I hate the gym or any formal exercise
I'd rather get stuck into scrubbing paintwork
and curtain washing any day of the week.
When we were younger, my sisters and I
(I have six of them no less!) used to
form a working party and go to each others
houses to do spring cleaning and it was
always a great laugh. The music was always
loud, the kettle was always boiling and
we are our way through every cream cake
imaginable. We laughed at anything and
everything and ridiculed every past boyfriend
we'd had a in between discussions of handbags
and lipsticks a surprising amount of housework
actually got done!
Nowadays, the music's a little quieter
and I don't wear my lipstick to do the
washing up, but I still enjoy start of
spring just as much.
