I'm
always advising people to do something
different in their lives and I'm
about to take my own advice. Regular readers
will know that I'm a 'Neutral' person.
I almost always wear nudes, beiges, browns
and blacks.
I rarely go for very bright colours and
in truth, they really don't suit me. But
every now and then something comes along
that just really draws me.
Whilst I'm happy to inject a pop of pink
or green into my wardrobe I rarely go
full on bright, but last year I did for
the pillar-box red patent handbag and
I loved it. So when a really vivid yellow
jacket caught my eye I automatically dismissed
it as not being me. I kept looking at
it and thinking about it but didn't try
it on, then when I was out shopping with
a good friend she persuaded me to try
it. I was amazed at just how great it
looked, and even more important, how it
felt. I felt like a completely new person.
It gave me a whole new look to my complexion
and really lifted my spirits.
I
then tried it on with a navy blue outfit
underneath and I was so pleased with the
results. It was a whole new me in the
mirror. As it happened I didn't buy the
jacket, but I did then go on to buy a
gorgeous yellow sweater that I absolutely
love, but would never have considered
before.
So it's reminded me not to stay stuck
in a look without even trying what for
me is unusual. Obviously the longest part
of our wardrobe will be made up of what
we know we look good in, but it may just
be that you look great in something else
too. If you're a black trouser girl like
me, then you really can afford to try
the more unusual colours on the top.
Have a go with yellow, or the fabulous
oranges that are out there just now. If
you never do lime green or bubblegum pink
then try it as a block colour next to
your face and give your spirit a lift.
As
for as doing something different is concerned
I'm also going to update my nail varnish
collection. Again, I'm a neutral French
manicure girl as a rule, but every now
and again I break out and wear something
really different, and it really can give
you a little lift. I do wear a bright
fuschia occasionally and actually I'm
always surprised how different I feel
in it.
So instead of looking at all the usual
colours I'm going to look at the unusual
ones first and try to imagine myself wearing
them. And if you are already a bright
colour wearer then try and change your
look by going pastel or nude. You too
might be surprised to find a new look
that you love. If you always wear prints
and patterns have a go with solid block
colours and see what you think.
And remember its not always about how
something looks, it can be how it makes
you feel that's important.
