There
are the days
when we want to wear out full face
make-up, coloured nails and lashings
of mascara, but some days we just
want to play it down.
Certainly many more mature women
that I speak to want to achieve
a natural look with their make-up.
I include myself in this last bracket
and have to admit that I feel more
comfortable these days with a less
dramatic look around my face.
I do love to see a real smoky-eye,
red talon look on those who can
carry it off but it can sit less
well on women after a certain age.
Or it may be that you prefer to
keep the fully made-up look for
special occasions or nights out
and prefer a natural look for work
or daily life.

Either way I think you might
enjoy the new range for
Barbara Daly for Tesco.
Barbara is an icon in the
make-up world and has been
making up celebrities for
years. Her look has always
been quite a natural, healthy
look and easy to wear on
a daily basis.
I particularly like the
mousse foundations that
are around everywhere at
the
|
moment and Barbara's are so light
and yet with really nice coverage.
Teamed with the mousse blush you
have a really natural base to add
to.
I
also like the eye foundation
for evening out skin tone
on the eyelid, and although
it does provide a lovely
base for eye shadow, its
excellent worn alone to
'clean up' the eye area
for a completely natural
look.
And for the more mature
lady, an even colour on
the eye lid will really
open up the eye and help
with any hooded lids.

I wear this alone or under
Bobbi Browns 'Bone' eye
shadow on a daily basis
with just two coats of mascara
for a completely fresh natural
look.
A question I am always asked
is, 'to line or not to line?'
- referring to eye liner
of course.
There are two distinct camps
on this opinion in the beauty
world. Does it open the
eye up or close it down?
|
Well, I think if you are young,
it's a great fashion statement at
the moment so go ahead and enjoy
the look, eyes are at their fullest
and brightest and you can carry
it off easily.
|
However,
I'm of the opinion that
it can really close down
the eye area when lids become
slightly lower and looser
in middle age. In fact I'm
totally with those who prefer
to actually lighten the
line around the eye as we
mature, really opening up
the eye by making the whites
really pop.
I think the trick is really
just to try it for yourself.
Line just one eye and really
study whether you think
the eye appears more or
less awake with or without.
And in my opinion, never
line under the eye. I think
this always closes the eye
up and also draws attention
to dark circles and fine
lines around the eye. It
also accentuates any crepeyness
in the eye area and who
wants that?
|
Do always go with a good mascara
to open up the eye, even if you
wear a really naturally look, mascara
will instantly give a more youthful,
wide-eyed appearance. Another tip
is to dot a tiny amount of concealer
or eyelid foundation on the inner
corners of the eye lid next to the
nose bone.
Be careful not to overdo it and
blend really well but it will cancel
out that bluish tone that appears
later in life on these inner corners,
really opening up the eye again.
To complete a really natural look
a glossy neutral tone on the lips
works best, I really love Cliniques
Delovely as it gives fabulous colour
with really great shine and lasts
really well for a glossy sheer.
If you need a new look this season
or are bored with your make-up,
do check out the Barbara Daly range
as I think you may find just what
you're after.
