As
winter limps slowly into spring,
well as far as the shops are concerned
anyway, it's lovely to see all the pastel
colours and florals that are around for
the new season. Although greys and chalky
denim blues are big they are softened
with hints of pink, lavender and baby
blues.
The really trendy shops are full of Boho chic again this season with layering being
at the forefront, with loads of tunic
lengths and kaftan shapes in fabulous
muted tones. Beads are again the order
of the day with the emphasis on natural
stones rather than the brighter colours
of last season. It's great to see the
biker look making its appearance again,
although much softer worn over floatier
numbers underneath.
Leather is still huge in jackets, trousers
and skirts and boots are still a big story
for spring. This look is teamed with a
resurgence in the 'choppy' haircuts that
were popular several years back. There
seems to be a rebelliance after the stark,
poker straight styles we had got used
to.
Although curls are very much still in
for longer hair, we've seen a big revival
in 'messed up' hair for shorter styles
and that seems set to continue into the
year ahead.
And anyone who's anyone is having a fringe
this year! Bold, blunt cut fringes are
tops at the moment, with long, over-one-eye
styles following close behind. I've also
seen a lot of 'tipping' making a return
- dark with white ends, blondes with black
tips, that sort of look. If you fancy
a change have a flick through our style
gallery before you commit to the scissors.
For those in a hurry, busy working mums
etc., a choppy haircut can be a real blessing.
We don't all have time to straighten our
hair perfectly every day or to spend time
curling before work, so something a little
messy can save us so much time on styling.
In fact a handy tool to have would be
the mini sized stylers just to help flick
ends and fringes really quickly. A choppy
style can work really well on more mature
ladies too, giving a real youthful edge
without looking silly. Have a look through
Lulu's styles over the years to get the
idea.
And a less perfectly styled hairdo will
also help to disguise root growth between
colours especially with highlights. Surprisingly
too, if you suffer from breakouts or you're
skin isn't quite what you would like it
to be a perfectly styled hairdo can really
accentuate the flaws, as well as lines
and wrinkles.
A more interesting cut will dray the eye
away from the imperfections until you
can get your skin under control. In the
same way the fashions I mentioned earlier
can also help disguise a figure that you
are less than happy with.
If you're not so happy with your lumps
and bumps then avoid clingy, figure hugging
dresses and opt for the gorgeous tunic
length tops popped over neat black leggings.
Take a look through the Next Director
for some inspiration on how to put a look
together.
Beads or a long cotton scarf draped around
the neck help to elongate the body and
draw the eye away from the wider parts.
Finish your outfit with boots if you are
a little short as they always give the
appearance of lengthening the leg.
Whatever your age or shape I'm sure you'll
find something to suit you out there at
the moment, there is so much to choose
from, don't be afraid to try a new look
this season.
