Are you sticking to your resolutions? Well, it's a couple of weeks in now and I have stuck to my promise to myself (see last times column) but I am already struggling. I've done much tougher things in my time but honestly, for a beauty editor not to buy beauty products you would not believe how determined I've had to be. I'm constantly surrounded by products and have an in-built passion for anything vaguely 'creamy' but I really have got to train myself not to want everything I see. So if you're struggling with your resolutions, I really know how you feel - let's stick in there together!

One thing I am going to be buying more of is leggings. I haven't worn leggings for donkey's years and although I am quite slim, I really felt that I might look a little 'mature' shall we say for them. But I tried a really nice quality pair with Emu boots and a nice long-length tunic top and I really liked the look. I'd also forgotten how fabulously comfortable they are to wear, like a second skin.

I'm sticking to black for the moment as I like to wear colour up near my face, and have a lot of Bohemian type tops that need to be grounded with a neutral. But I do love to see all the fabulous trendy tartans and florals that I've seen younger girls and ladies wearing - fantastic with all kinds of ugly boots, pixie boots or knee lengths.

Teamed with the great longer shirt styles around just now, made feminine with the really long, jangly necklaces that are every- where, it's a really fun, youthful look. Great to see all the chunky knitwear this season too in some really fab unusual colours - teals, olives, mustards, this winter fashion seems to have actually got the message that yes, we do need to keep warm and look great at the same time.

I'm also not doing too badly with my other resolution which was to learn to crochet. Each year I like to try something new to add to my skills list (its's very short!) and although I'm quite a good knitter, I can't follow a crochet pattern. I love all the crochet shrugs, over tops and even hats that are all-season wear, but so far I've made three small squares to go towards a blanket I hope to complete this year.

I'm really pleased with myself but I was even more pleased to see all the youngsters in the wool shop when I went! I think wool-work must have really taken off in the trendy stakes as the shop was packed with young mums and even teenagers which I think is fantastic. With all the 'home-made' type programmes on t.v., lately it's great to think that some of the old skills are getting a revival.

I chatted to a young lady of twelve who said she was starting a scarf and hopes to have it finished for when she goes to University - bless her! Actually, it might take me that long to finish my blanket so I can give it to her to brighten up her student accommodation!

Whatever 2010 has in store for us all I hope that it's a productive and enriching time for us all, whether it's losing weight, getting fit or giving up smoking I wish you all the luck in the world with your own personal challenges.
