Have
you eaten all the chocolates yet?
Well I almost have and I must say
I enjoyed every single one of them!
I know New Year is supposed to be
a time of self control and discipline
but surely we can be allowed to
finish to chocolates first.
I think I must have a bit of a reputation
for being a chocoholic judging by
the fabulous array of boxes I received
this year. My other half has kindly
volunteered to help me get through
them - the most enthusiastic offer
I've had from him all year! Still,
we've both acquired new bikes as
part of our get-fit-this-year campaign
so I expect we'll cycle off all
those unwanted pounds soon. Well,
actually, I think we'll wait for
some warmer weather to arrive -
that'll give us time to polish off
all those lovely cheeses in the
fridge too.
And there's no point starting to
get fit whilst there are so many
bags of exotic crisps left in the
cupboard, or until the Christmas
cake is gone and I simply have to
eat the white chocolate snowman
with my name on it given to me by
a dear friend, she'd be hurt if
I didn't and although I don't drink
myself, I really must get my good
man to drink those 24 cans of beer
that are cluttering up the kitchen
- he says he bought them for unexpected
guests but as both our families
only drink wine I suspect his motives
were purely personal.

Still,
I did buy the large bag of nuts that
he doesn't particularly like so there'd
be all the more for me, and the cheesecake
in the freezer has mandarins on which
he can't abide so I guess I'll be
eating that alone too. He does have
several Vienetta ice creams to get
through - he can have that when I
have the jam roly-poly. We can share
the jumbo prawns and the black forest
gateau though and I don't mind sharing
the tin of chocolate chip cookies
with our guests as neither of us really
like them (the cookies - not the guests!)
Anyway, all in all I really don't
think it's a good idea to commit ourselves
to getting fit until about February
- by that time the larder will be
bare and we'll be living off yoghurt
to pay for our sins! |
For
once, I actually think the Winter
Sale's have been fantastic
this year. I'm not normally very
successful at the sales - I'm
easily defeated by the pushing
crowds who all seem more determined
than I am and I usually come away
disheartened and 'purchase-less'.
But I congratulate myself on being
the proud owner

of
two new pairs of boots, some trouser
shoes, a fabulous handbag, at least
half a dozen sweaters, three new
scarves, some woolly tights, a coat
and a new dressing gown.
And no, I haven't won the lottery,
I really did get them all at fantastically
low prices which totaled together
less than I normally pay for my
favourite range of face creams (they,
sadly, were not on offer so I shall
have to wait until my birthday).
I think the range of goods on offer
this year was greater, certainly
in my part of the world, and the
quality items were plentiful so
real savings could be made. The
nicest part for me was having a
colour palette that is actually
wearable this season - I've really
disliked all the unusually garish
things that were around last year
so this winters teals, olives and
plums have been more than welcome.
I do wear a lot of neutrals but
I have managed to find some great
new colours this season and I think
knitwear has been fab this winter
- no more middle-aged twin-sets
but some really fun and funky styles
that actually keep you warm! And
hooray for all the fluffy flat boots
around at the moment - I've lived
in mine for the past few weeks,
as has everyone else I've met in
the street, I'll almost be sad when
the summer comes and I have to put
all my lovely new things away. |
