A Happy New Year to all our readers! The weather may have started dull and miserable this year but the mood in the office is definitely positive. It seems we all got exactly what we wanted for Christmas this year and although the year is yet young, so far we’ve all kept out resolutions.
Well actually I began mine before New Year – I was determined to make an absolutely new start this year with a whole new wardrobe, skin routine and body beautiful regime. I took the positively drastic and dangerous step of getting rid of my whole wardrobe of clothes – yes really!

The whole lot, bagged up and given to charity three days before Christmas. Tops, bottoms, sweaters – the whole lot and it felt fantastic.

I had reached a point last summer where I knew that nothing was really working for me anymore. I wasn’t passionate about a single piece in my wardrobe and to
be honest I loathed most of it. In fact, it was making me downright miserable! So I made my mind up there and then to ‘detox’ the lot. I’ve only ever done anything on that scale once before and that was when we moved house three years ago.

We had saved really hard and decided to leave absolutely everything behind, all the furniture, curtains, fixtures fittings, everything. We wanted a completely new look at our new house and knew that if we took even a few things then we’d be stuck with trying to make them fit in. So we put up with bare floorboards and nothing to sit on until we made our choices and although it was really hard at times I have never loved a house more than I do this one.
It felt almost like a spiritual cleansing and I can honestly say we have chosen everything in this home on its own merit and love it all the more. So, deep down, I knew the only way to go with my horrible wardrobe was to say goodbye to it all. Obviously a great deal of planning and saving went on last year – after all we live in an area where the neighbours would complain if I walked around naked (and who could blame them!) and it did take a long time trawling the internet to find what I wanted – I’ve long since given up pounding the same old pavements with the same old stores which blast you with hideous music and sell clothes only fit for circus clowns.

But eventually I found a company that seemed to have all the right things for me – true, I did have to send to Canada
to get them but it was unbelievably simple, it arrived within days and their prices were far keener than anything we have in the UK! It all fitted perfectly and looked terrific and I knew I had the right thing. A whole new me had appeared at the click of a mouse and it felt absolutely wonderful.

Once I had built my ‘capsule’ wardrobe full of classic pieces I wrote a list of what I needed, what I wanted and added a few things I would like to try and over Christmas and New Year I have systematically been putting together a very comprehensive collection that I’m now very pleased with. Of course, I haven’t made a start on summer yet but I’ll soon have that underway!

And for once, when my family asked what I would like for Christmas this year I was able to tell them! I showed them a list of all the new face and body products that I wanted and there they all appeared in my stocking! I knew that my skin routine wasn’t really working as hard for me as I would like – skin gets lazy if you use a product for too long, what had suited me over the past ten years just wasn’t delivering and although I do get to try many products throughout the year in my job, I basically stuck to the same routine for years. It was time for a change so I did, and again, I couldn’t be more pleased.

It may sound drastic and a little scary to go to such lengths but if you’re feeling the same way I suggest you try it. Obviously you need to plan ahead and give yourself some time to get things together but once you’ve done that then set yourself a deadline. Choose an event – your birthday, anniversary or such and set that as the date for the big clear out. And be ruthless, if you don’t absolutely love it or need it then out it goes! Making such a big change will also open up other possibilities; you will be able to choose new make-up or nail polishes, different styles of jewellery or a
hair style that you might not have considered before.

My new wardrobe is still lacking a few pieces of course and it may take a little time to replace everything, but I can honestly say it has done me a power of good – the best start to the New Year I could have given to myself!
