Most of us put on a few pounds at two key times of the year – Christmas, and the great Summer Hols. If you’ve piled on the weight after this years holidays it might be a good idea to tackle the problem over
the next few months – before the Christmas
food feast arrives!

But think seriously before you rush into
buying labels which claim to ‘make you
thin’

The only way that most weight-loss
tablets or aids can be effective is if you
use them in conjunction with a healthy
diet and lifestyle.

Certain products are slimming ‘aids’ and not ‘magic’
solutions. They can help you achieve your ideal weight if taken as per the instructions, but you do still need to do most of the work yourself. This means that you need to eat a healthy balanced diet and get plenty of exercise.

Some of the Slimming Aids available are:

• Adios (£10.50 for 100 tablets) This may help you control your appetite by making you feel fuller for longer.

• Zotrim (approx £23 for 180 tablets) could help reduce the tendency to snack. It can help reduce your overall food intake.

• Slimthnl (approx £13.10 for 90ml) is a different option. You can either drink it on its own or add to your food and drinks and can help you feel fuller for longer.

There is no magic formula when it comes to weight loss, it basically comes down to diet, exercise and motivation. You shouldn’t lose weight rapidly as it can be dangerous to your health. Slimming Aids are out there, but if you’re sensible you can lose weight without using these.

It’s important to eat three meals a day, breakfast being very important, so don’t skip it! You should be having five portions of fruit and veg a day too.
Don’t eat foods that are high in fat, salt or sugar. If you increase your physical activity then this can help prevent any excess calories turning into body fat. Do something that’s enjoyable – it doesn’t have to take long, you can walk little but on a regular basis!

If you are very overweight, then there are weight loss programmes that could help. These are led by pharmacists and can help you achieve a greater weight loss than with diet and exercise alone. (Some Boots stores offer this).

If you do want to shape up then you don’t have to fork out for a gym membership. You can make small changes to your everyday life that can really help. Walk more – you can walk the stairs instead of taking the lift or go for a stroll in your lunch hour. You can do a fitness DVD in the comfort of your own home without worrying what you look like and it can fit around your hours of work and lifestyle.

Choose activities that help you keep fit but that are also enjoyable. If you have children, go swimming together or a long country bike ride. A
game of rounder’s or ice skating will not only keep the kids entertained but will be good for you too! If you have a dog, get them to be your walking companion. Not only will the exercise do you good but ‘green’ exercise (that is outside and close to nature) can actually improve your self-esteem and mood, and could even reduce your blood pressure.

And if all else fails………….then learn to make the most of what you’ve got!
Treat your dimply thighs to regular body brushes and exfoliations.

Treat your pale and pasty skin to fake tan (this can make you appear slimmer). Treat your hair to an intense conditioner and pop on a face pack at the same time! A bit of “me” time can work wonders. Just because we had a terrible summer doesn’t mean we have to be as drab, forget the greys, browns and blacks that we usually wear and wear something bright to lift your mood with your outfit. Add a hint of colour with that black suit as colours can really effect our mood. Colour can create energy, so when grey skies and rain surrounds us, lift your mood and project some warmth instead of hibernating away! Reds will give you energy, warmth and a feeling of strength. Yellow can make you feel creative and
optimistic. Orange show that you are up for some fund and pink will leave you feeling calm and tranquil.
